Our Progress
Since 2015, we’ve been making real progress together to invest in the middle class, grow an economy that works for everyone, and protect our environment.
Below you’ll see examples of this progress, like building new affordable housing, implementing the Canada Child Benefit and lifting over 400,000 kids out of poverty, helping Canadians get the training needed to find and keep good jobs, working to finish the fight against COVID-19, and so much more.
But there’s still more to do, and we’re ready to keep building on our progress.
Introduced the new Canada Child Benefit, which gives more money to the families who need it most — lifting nearly 435,000 kids out of poverty.
Banning 1,500 models of assault-style weapons, and moving forward with the strongest measures to combat gun violence that our country has ever seen.
Accelerating Canada’s shift to net-zero emissions by 2050, and setting mandatory targets for new vehicles to be zero-emissions by 2035.
Restored the age of eligibility for Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement to 65, after Stephen Harper raised it to 67.
Taking real action to fight climate change, including putting a price on pollution.
Introduced the EI Parental Sharing Benefit to provide 5 extra weeks of benefits when parental leave is shared.
More support for first-time homebuyers, including the new First-Time Home Buyer Incentive.
Stood up for Canadians when it came to unfair steel and aluminum tariffs and the renegotiation of the new NAFTA.
Made historic new investments in better transit, roads and bridges in communities across Canada.
Helped create tens of thousands of new high-quality and affordable child care spaces, and are working with the provinces and territories to move forward with a Canada-wide early learning and child care system, including $10 a day child care.
Worked swiftly to procure COVID-19 vaccines and distribute them to the provinces and territories to administer to Canadians — securing enough vaccines for all Canadians two months ahead of schedule.
Lowered income taxes for the middle class, and raised them on the wealthiest 1%.
Unmuzzled Canadian scientists, re-introduced the long-form census, and made the largest investment in Science in Canadian history.
Legalized cannabis with strict regulations to keep it out of the hands of kids, and keep the profits out of the pockets of criminals.
Protecting our coastal communities and ecosystems with the Oceans Protection Plan.
Made significant new investments to end over 108 drinking water advisories on reserves, with work underway to end the others.
Introduced the Canada Workers’ Benefit to reduce barriers to employment for low-wage workers, and expanded the benefit this year to support 1 million more workers and help lift nearly 100,000 out of poverty.
Launched the new Canada Training Benefit to help Canadians get the skills they need for their current or their next job.
Diversified Canadian trade — making Canada the only G7 country with free-trade deals with every other G7 country.
Passed the Accessible Canada Act to advance the rights of and accessibility for Canadians with disabilities.
More support for LGBTQ2 Canadians, including federal legislation to protect trans rights and the first-ever investments in LGBTQ2 service organizations.
Took the first steps toward a National Pharmacare system that will help reduce prescription drug costs for Canadians.
Invested in women entrepreneurs and advanced pay-equity legislation so women get equal pay for work of equal value.
Built new affordable housing through Canada’s first-ever National Housing Strategy.
New support for Métis, First Nation and Inuit peoples in Canada, including housing and water infrastructure, schooling, language protections.
Real action to ban harmful single-use plastics by 2021 to keep our oceans clean.
